IPTV's Reading Road Trip stops in Ottumwa

Dan Wardell, host of IPTV's Kid's Clubhouse, brought his Reading Road Trip to Ottumwa Tuesday.

Iowa Public Television brought its summer Reading Road Trip to Ottumwa Tuesday morning.

IPTV's Dan Wardell, host of Kid's Clubhouse, is visiting 68 cities across the state this summer. Tuesday's stop at the Knights of Columbus Hall drew about 300 kids.

Wardell's energetic presentation gets the kids involved and excited about things like reading, exercise and healthy food.

"You know, kids are always surprised because I come up and I say, kids, I want you, even though I work at the TV station, turn the TV's off, go outside and play, use imagination, read good books and eat healthy food," Wardell said. "And we go on an adventure and this year, it's about princesses and super heroes and by the time everything is done, they don't even know that they learned."

Wardell also emphasizes the importance of your local library and the adventures that can be found in books.

Wardell posts to his blog as he travels around Iowa and you can see pictures from the event in Ottumwa by clicking here.
