The Jefferson St. viaduct will be closed Thursday morning for routine maintenance.
The bridge will close at 8 a.m and remain closed throughout the morning. Crews will be cleaning up salt and sand that accumulated over the winter and will be doing some work to its joints. Ottumwaâ??s Public Information Officer Tom Rodgers is reminding drivers to make other accommodations and take an alternate route during that time.
â??We would recommend drivers take the Wapello Street extension, or the Highway 63 across the river, or the Highway 34 bridge, or of course the Market Street Bridge is always available too,â?? Rodgers said.
The heavily traveled Jefferson St. viaduct should reopen sometime Thursday afternoon. The bridge was built in 1936 and is going on 77-years-old. It remains one of the city of Ottumwaâ??s historic landmarks.
