A local juvenile detention center is being recognized as a state demonstration site.
The Bruce Normile Juvenile Justice Center in Kirksville was recently named a 'Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative' state demonstration site by the state of Missouri.
As such, the center will serve as a model facility for other detention centers around the Show-Me-State.
Staffers from other detention centers in Missouri will have the opportunity to come to the juvenile justice center in Kirksville to review the best practices and policies when dealing with juveniles.
Since its construction in 2000, the Kirksville center has served thousands of children and families from 50 of Missouri's 114 counties.
