Just days after the executive director for Kirksville Downtown Improvement Committee Inc. or KDIC submitted his resignation, a new interim executive director has been chosen.
A meet and greet was held early Tuesday morning for Jeremy Pingel.
Pingel was born and raised in Kirksville and graduated for Northeast Missouri Bible College in 2002.
He's presently an independent associate representing Aflac Insurance located in downtown Kirksville.
Pingel is replacing outgoing executive director Nate Walker who recently submitted his resignation, and although Pingel is new to the committee, he says he's excited to jump on board.
"I love this community, I did leave for about three years and came back because I just love the community here and you know we want to see a thriving community in Kirksville," Pingel said. " So whatever we can do to help serve the community and improve it, that's what we want to do."
Pingel is the third person to hold this position in the last two years and when asked if he had any concerns about it, he said no.
"My only concern and my only issue is I would hope that people will allow me the opportunity to speak with them, obviously I'm not the two former directors." said Pingel. "I know there has been concern and that's ok, that's a part of reality so I welcome that and look forward to speaking to those that are concerned."
Pingel found out about his new title last week and says he's been working side by side Walker to ensure a smooth transition.
"I'll work real closely with the board with what their goals have been and really what Nate has done as well, he's done a great job here for KDIC," said Pingel. "I want to build on what's already been established and enhance that because they've done a good job and have done some great things with the community and I hope to increase that level."
