An Ottumwa man is in custody facing a first degree kidnapping charge. The Ottumwa Police Department says an adult female reported on October 10 that she had been confined against her will for nearly two weeks.
The complaint and affidavit filed in Wapello County Court says that Adem Geleto Anota, 33, confined the victim and her family to a residence on Fellows Avenue, starting on September 24.
Anota kept the family in the home by threatening to kill them.
While being held in the apartment the victim told police that she was forced into non-consensual sex by Anota numerous times over the 13 day period.
According to the victim, Anota used death threats to get her to comply.
Anota has pleaded not guilty to the kidnapping charge, which is a Class "A" Felony and carries a mandatory life sentence with a conviction.
Anota is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $150,000 cash only bond.
