Some Heartland college students are picking up the basics of saving a life for a new summer job.
For the next two weekends, the Aquatic Center in Kirksville is hosting lifeguard training.
Saturday morning, the students engaged in some hands-on activities as they were taught to respond to a diving accident in the pool. This is just one of many real life situations they will be trained on.
â??With lifeguard training. They have to learn in-water rescues, basic water rescues, spinal emergencies, on-top of learning CPR and first-aid since we're considered a water park. They will learn water park skills as well,â?? said Trainer Heather Darrah.
Darrah says the staff at the Aquatic Center are very confident about this year's group.
The future lifeguards say they are ready for what the summer season will bring them.
The Aquatic Center is now Red Cross certified to do the training.
