Kirksville Band receives top rating at music festival

KHS Band receives top honors at music festival

Local bands perform at state music festival.

The Kirksville High School band traveled to Hannibal-LaGrange University for the annual Missouri State High School Activities Association State Music Festival on March 23.

This year the band performed â??Amparito Rocaâ?? by Rex Texidor and â??Chorale and Shaker Danceâ?? by John Zdechlik. The Percussion Ensemble performed â??Phase Danceâ?? by Pat Methenny and â??Japanese Overtureâ?? by Ney Rosauro.

The 3 performance judges and the sightreading judge each gave the band a 1 rating for a cumulative 1 â??Superiorâ?? Rating. The percussion Ensemble also received a 1 rating from each judge. This is the first year that the percussion ensemble has received a 1 rating and the 4th year in a row that the band has received a 1.

The Director of Bands is Brad Hudson and the Assistant Director of Bands is Karen Harrison. The percussion ensemble is led by Paul Hadwiger. The band also has 2 student teachers this semester, Danny Lewis and Ethan Stewart.
