Kirksville celebrates America's birthday

Community members laced up their running shoes this morning to kick off the Fourth of July festivities.

The Firecracker 5K run and 1 mile walk was followed by the annual Red White and Blue Parade.

The parade looped around the downtown square.

Proceeds went towards the purchase of tonightâ??s fireworks display and to local charities.

But the holiday events donâ??t stop there.

Local Kirksville clubs will be holding a pancake breakfast tomorrow morning starting at 7am in the downtown cinema 8 parking lot.

Plus, the Hilliest FLATS ride will be going on at 7am as well. Participants will meet at the parking lot just south of the Wooden Nickel.

Now, community support is what keeps the events continuing year after year.

â??Oh it takes so many volunteers to put this on and Iâ??m really pleased that everybody works so hard and has such a good time,â?? said Debi Boughton, Kirksville Tourism Director.
