The Kirksville community spent Thursday afternoon worshiping together.
The National Day of Prayer is held throughout the United States on the first Thursday of May. The ceremony at the Adair County Court House was just one of the many being held in the Kirksville area. The day allows community members to come together no matter the denomination to pray. They pray for the nation, government, churches, youth, schools, family, media, and the business community.
"I think it's absolutely important that we recognize that we are all apart of the family of God, and it's not just this church or that church. We are together in this. We may have some theological differences, but we still serve God and we want to honor him," said Bob Fredricks, of the First Assembly of God in Kirksville.
National Day of Prayer organizers are hoping for better weather next year. This way, the ceremony can be held on the lawn of the court house and help to get more community members involved.
