The Kirksville City Council held a special meeting Monday night.
The Council welcomed new members and nominated a new mayor. One newly elected official and one re-elected council member took their 'Oaths of Office'. Jerry Mills was reelected, and Rick Steele is the newly elected councilman. Steele is replacing Roger Edge who has served on Council since April of 2011.
"I'm just very excited about the whole thing. You know, I just really hope we can see a lot of progress," said Rick Steele, of the Kirksville City Council.
Also at Monday nights City Council meeting, the floor was open to nominate a Mayor for 2014 - 2015. Current councilman, Glen Moritz was nominated as the new Mayor. Richard Detweiler will now serve as the Mayor Pro Tem for the same year.
"I'm thrilled to be the new Mayor here. It feels like a great reward for some of the hard work that I have done over the past year. I appreciate the total support," said Glen Moritz, the newly nominated Mayor of Kirksville.
Council also approved and nominated members to different committees and boards. The Kirksville City Council will meet again Monday April 21st, to hold a regularly scheduled meeting.
