Firefighters from the Kirksville Fire Department have given a very generous donation to a cause that's close to their hearts.

The department presented a check in the amount of $7,500 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Wednesday.

They presented the check with help from 7-year-old Jaiden Dovin, who faces a daily battle with the disorder.

Jaiden was diagnosed with the condition when he was only two years old, and it presents many challenges.

The MDA's Columbia Office says the money the fire department raised will stay in the central Missouri area and helps those affected with the condition through advancements in medicine and research.

"$7,500 is a remarkable amount for the fire department to bring in for us in this region and we really appreciate all the work that they do and the Kirksville community for their support of the fire department and support what we do here," said MDA Area Director Ryan Duncan.

The department was able to raise the money for MDA through its "Fill The Boot" campaign, which took place back in August.

They told us they're thankful to all those who donated to the cause.
