Kirksville Illinois Street improvement plan progressing
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
The process to eliminate on-street parking along one Kirksville Street is progressing.
Come January 1, the Kirksville Public Works Department hopes to do away with parking along a 9-block section of Illinois Street.
In May, Airport and Transportation Commission (ATC) members first learned of the proposal.
Public Works says the plan is to do a complete tear-out of Illinois Street, from Marion to Baltimore.
During that same May meeting, ATC members voted to officially recommend the project to Planning and Zoning as well as Kirksville City Council.
Earlier this month, the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the project.
Right now, there's no date scheduled yet for this measure to go before City Council.
Kirksville Public Works Director Glenn Balliew previously told KTVO that as far as on-street parking goes, crews have analyzed every property on the affected section of Illinois.
He says each home has an alternative option for parking other than on the street.
After eliminating parking, crews hope to then add bicycle lanes to both sides of Illinois Street from Marion to Baltimore streets.
