Kirksville is offering the spring appliance pick-up this week

The City of Kirksville is offering residents the opportunity to dispose of household appliances free of charge from April 21-25.

The City of Kirksville is helping residents get some spring cleaning done.

This week, the city is offering residents the opportunity to dispose of household appliances free of charge.

Household appliances that are eligible for pickup include refrigerators, freezers, stoves, ovens, air conditioning units, washers, dryers, dishwashers, toaster ovens, furnaces, hot water heaters and space heaters.

City officials want people to take this opportunity so appliances can be recycled properly.

"Some of the appliances has freon in it. Freon is harmful to the environment and ozone layer. So this company sends it to where the freon can be taken out and do it correctly to meet E.P.A requirements and helps our environment in total," said Codes and Planning Director Brad Selby.

The pick-up of appliances will be done by Perfect Metals USA, LLC. Citizens should call Perfect Metals USA at (660) 665-8000 to schedule a pickup of their appliances.

Please remove any food or other debris from the appliance before the scheduled pickup date.
