The Fourth of July is upon us and the city of Kirksville has a lot planned for this holiday weekend.
City partners along with the Kirksville Chamber of Commerce is holding the 9th annual Red, White, and Blue Festival this weekend.
It all kicks off on Thursday with the Firecracker 5K at 8 a.m. and the parade at 9 a.m. in downtown Kirksville.
The Splash Bash at the Aquatic Center is from 1-5 p.m. followed by the fireworks display near the Kirksville Country Club at 9:30 p.m.
So there is plenty of family fun you can expect.
"We want to have activities that folks will have a good time doing with their familIes. This year since the fourth is on a Thursday, it may not be possible for folks to leave town, so this will give everyone lots of fun stuff to do this weekend," said Kirksville Assistant City Manager Melanie Smith.
The festival will continue on Friday with pie and music on the courthouse lawn. There will also be activities on Saturday such as the pancake breakfast and Farmer's Market on the square and Cemetary Theater at Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery.
