A farm tractor accident has left a northeast Missouri man dead.

Adair County Sheriff Robert Hardwick said at 1 p.m. Tuesday emergency dispatchers were notified of a man trapped underneath a tractor off of Buck Creek Road in the Hazel Creek Lake area north of Kirksville.

Killed in the accident was Rick Johnson, 43, of Kirksville.

Some of you may know him from his job at the Lovegreen car dealership in Kirksville.

We were also told his was a popular softball coach in the area.

Adair County Coroner Brian Noe pronounced Johnson dead at the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Noe said Johnson was discovered by his dad.

The two were going deer hunting when the tragedy happened.

Hardwick said the younger Johnson was operating the tractor, and as he came down a steep hill on the Johnson family property, the tractor slid to the right and overturned, coming to rest on top of him.

Johnson's dad discovered the accident a short time later.

He went to call for help and then came back to the scene and used his truck to pull the tractor off of Johnson, but it was too late.

The tragedy happened in a field at 22884 Buck Creek Road.
