Kirksville man pleads guilty to child molestation

A Heartland man who pleaded guilty to one charge of first-degree child molestation manages to avoid prison time.

Adair County Prosecutor Matt Wilson says 30-year-old Danny Barnes of Kirksville was given a 15-year suspended sentence.

Judge Russell Steele gave Barnes five years probation for molesting a child under the age of 14.

Next, the suspect must register as a sex offender.


A Kirksville man has pleaded guilty to a child molestation charge.

30-year-old Danny Ray Barnes appeared in Adair County Court on Friday, January 17th to enter the guilty plea.

Barnes is charged with 1st Degree Child Molestation, a Class B Felony, for causing sexual contact with a child who was under the age of 14. The charge arose from an investigation into events that took place between the summer of 2007 and early 2008.

Barnes is scheduled to appear in court again on March 4th for sentencing.

Court documents state that Adair County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Wilson is asking the court to impose the maximum sentence of 15 years in jail.
