Kirksville native fatally shot in St. Louis
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
A patient fatally shot at a St. Louis hospital earlier this month had ties to Kirksville.
The incident occurred on January 11 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
Officials say Andrew Merryman, 46, was a patient at the facility and believed to be suicidal.
Reports state he was in a room with his wife when he forced his way out and pulled two knives from his pockets.
Security guards ordered Merryman to drop the weapons, but he refused.
As a result, the guards fired and fatally wounded Merryman.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Merryman's obituary, he grew up in Kirksville and graduated from Kirksville High School in 1990.
His most recent place of residence was Ballwin, Missouri.
