A northeast Missouri man is jailed, accused of rape and sodomy.

The suspect was arrested Monday in connection with an incident police say happened in late January 2018.

Thirty-four-year-old Alexis Jimenez Diaz of Kirksville is charged with First-Degree Rape and First-Degree Sodomy.

According to court documents, the alleged victim reported to police on January 26, 2018, that she had been sexually assaulted earlier that day.

Officers took her to the hospital to be examined. Hospital staff told police the woman had two bruises on the inside of her thighs that were shaped like fingers or hands.

The woman told police she had gone to Diaz's residence the day before the incident. She said around noon the next day, Diaz raped and sodomized her while she was lying on the floor on her stomach.

Officers said in court documents that Diaz has a criminal history that includes Assault, Aggravated Robbery, Armed Criminal Action and Domestic Violence.

The suspect appeared in an Adair County courtroom on Wednesday for his arraignment.

Diaz's preliminary hearing is set for March 28, 2018.

He is being held in the Adair County Law Enforcement Center on $150,000 cash-only bond.
