The Kirksville Regional Airport is proving to be a great asset to the city.
The Kirksville Regional Airport Economical Impact Study just completed by MoDOT shows that the airport has a total payroll of about $2 million and a total positive economic output to the community of over $6 million.
Although the city only has four employees that keep the airport within FAA and TSA standards, the airport and city staff's efforts has helped keep approximately 50 people employed.
Kirksville Regional Airport Director Glenn Balliew says this wouldn't be made possible without the community's support.
"One of the reasons the airport is successful is because of the support of the city. The mayor, the city council, and the city manager...they understand the economic impact of the airport. The guys who work here are great employees. They know what they're doing. They have to go through a lot of extensive training to be able to work here," Balliew said.
Balliew also says the success of Cape Air has increased commercial passenger numbers.
The support of local area businesses who use the airport for their business needs have also contributed to the airport's success.
