Kirksville residents 'check-out' hunger for the holidays

The Kirksville Hy-Vee store teamed up with the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri to help the hungry this holiday season.
Hy-Vee presented a check for $672 to the food bank Thursday afternoon.
The store has been collecting donations since the week of Thanksgiving as part of its 'Checkout Hunger Campaign.'
Shoppers could donate an extra dollar to the food bank while checking out, and receive special fuel saver rewards in the process.
With Christmas right around the corner, generous community support can make a big difference to a family in need.
â??It's a fabulous thing, to see people donating a dollar, it really does add up and we truly appreciate it and you know just thank everyone during the holidays for giving from their heart to help people,â?? said Susan Dublin, Regional Coordinator for the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri.
Every dollar donated helps the food bank fund area food pantries and programs like the 'Buddy Pack' program that helps those who don't have enough to eat throughout the year.
