The Kirksville School District is thanking local farmers for financially supporting the district and students.
The district recently received a grant through the America's Farmers Grow Communities Monsanto Fund. The $2,500 grant was donated to the district by local farmer, Patsy Robert. The district is also applying for a Rural Education Grant.
Superintendent Pat Williams told KTVO the grant, worth either $10,000 or $25,000 would help enhance education in two key subject areas.
"The importance of math and science and making sure that we have that next generation is critical. Making sure we have the kids learning how to use math and science to help us grow more food to feed the world," said Jacob Schneider, of the Monsanto Fund.
The Monsanto Fund will announce the recipients of the grants in August. Previous grants awarded to the Kirksville School District helped to purchase new technology.
