The Missouri Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) is helping area seniors to stay clear of scams.
The SMP hosted a 'Scamboree' Tuesday morning to help raise awareness when it comes to scams.
Those in attendance listened to guest speakers and played games. They answered questions on the best way to protect both themselves and their money from criminals. Tips such as not carrying your Medicare or Medicaid card until a doctors visit, and recording all services and billings were also given.
"Criminals are out in force and they are greedy, and there are so many different ways to get to people. Either through the phone, through the mail, or through the internet," said Craig Silvey, Missouri Senior Medicare Patrol Volunteer.
The Missouri SMP holds a number of 'Scamboree' workshops throughout the year. Next years workshop for the Kirksville area is already in planning.
