Kiwanis of Ottumwa Barbeque this Friday
For more than 10 years, both the Morning and Hy Noon Kiwanis Clubs in Ottumwa have raised more than $35,000 for the Ottumwa Public Library Childrenâ??s Department.
Each year both, clubs sponsor a pork barbeque dinner with all the proceeds going towards the libraryâ??s childrenâ??s department.
The dinner will coincide with Live After Five, with the dinner beginning at 4:30. New this year you can pick up your dinner to go. The meal costs $6.
This year, theyâ??re celebrating a brand new purchase in the childrenâ??s library all thanks to Kiwanis donations.
â??We used some of the funding for these, we call them A.W.E. computers, and they just got set up today here in the children's library. So kids can come down and play a multitude of different learning games. I think there's over 40 games on the computer. We're really happy about those and it's because of this annual event that we're able to afford, to provide those for the community,â?? said Sonja Ferrell, Ottumwa Public Library Director.
Not only do the funds go towards larger purchases but they also help with the Summer Reading Program and the American Home Finding Associationâ??s Daycare in high schools providing them with books.
