MARCELINE, Mo. — A four-year-old accident survivor in northeast Missouri is now without parents after they were both killed in a head-on crash on Friday.

It happened just before 11 a.m. on Highway 5, one-half mile north of Marceline.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Jeremy Maddox, 30, of Marceline and his 24-year-old wife, Jessika, were killed in the crash.

Their son, Riley Maddox, 4, suffered serious injuries.

Investigators said the Maddox vehicle was struck head-on by an oncoming car driven by Shauna Gauthier, 47, of Bucklin, who crossed the center line on top of a hill.

Gauthier's car then hit a parked pickup that was on the shoulder.

Gauthier and her granddaughter, Olivia Salgado, 7, of Marceline, both suffered serious injuries.

Jeremy and Jessika Maddox were pronounced dead at the scene.

Gauthier, Salgado and Riley Maddox were all flown to a Columbia hospital for treatment.

The patrol's online crash report states that no one in the Maddox vehicle was wearing a seat belt.
