Last summer neighborhood block party this weekend
Summer is almost over which means the summer parties are also winding down.
The Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department have been throwing neighborhood block parties in city parks. They have proven to be a big success, each with a very good turnout.
The department says the popularity of the parties is mainly due to their themes.
The first one at Memorial Park in June was a plant and garden theme to get people to enjoy the outdoors. The two at Jaycee and P.C. Mills park were a summer olympic theme to promote being healthy and active.
Now the last one at Brashear Park will be a fun theme of "Under the Sea."
"Well I want to keep some of it a surprise. One of the activities are crafts. We'll have sand art and the wading pool will be open. Don't forget your swim gear. We'll have water balloons and Hy-Vee will be out grilling hot dogs as well," said Recreation Assistant Courtney Pierce.
The block party will be taking place this Saturday, August 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Pierce added that the best part of these parties was just seeing the community come together.
