At Monday morning's Knee High Naturalists learning session at the Missouri Department of Conservation Office in Kirksville, pre-schoolers got to learn more about caterpillars and butterflies.
They heard the famous story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and how it became a butterfly.
Youngsters learned how these insects change through their life cycle.
"I wanted to introduce this idea that things change and grow. Even though it may start out as a tiny little egg or a caterpillar, it will grow into a beautiful butterfly," said Amanda Moore of the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The kids made their butterflies and went outside to explore to try to find them.
The next session for the group will be two weeks from today on May 20, when they will be learning about beavers. The program will also include special guest Justin Beaver.
