Liberty Elementary hosts a kindergarten open house.

Ottumwa's Liberty Elementary hosted an open house Thursday evening for future kindergarten students and their parents.

Ottumwa High School students were there to help out. Youngsters could get their pictures taken and participate in various activities. The OHS Bulldog mascot also made an appearance. Parents had the opportunity to see all the renovations underway at Douma Elementary. A slideshow was playing in the Liberty gym showing off all the progress at Douma. The kids received coloring books and nylon bags to take home. The open house was intended for every child on the south side.

â??It's always fun opening a new place, and Iâ??ve worked with Wildwood and Agassiz this school year and they'll come together in one building next year, which is very exciting,â?? Sarah Fisher, Douma Elementary Principal said.

The state-of-the-art Liberty Elementary School opened this school year. Next for the Ottumwa School District will be the re-opening of Douma. Renovations to the elementary school will be completed before school starts in the fall.
