Line spills into parking lot for KV POP golden ticket
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. —
Protect Our Pets. That’s the POP in KV POP.
Five years ago, five friends began raising money, offering coupons to residents in northeast Missouri for spaying and neutering their furry friends.
“We chat a little bit and I get their name, their animals name, the sex of … Bridget likes to get the animals names,” said KV POP Secretary Claire Peckosh.
The line flows into the parking lot for a $25 coupon for the surgery, even before the group arrives.
“This is the best part. This is the best part just having all these people lined up and all the ‘thank yous.’ People are really grateful.” said President of KV POP Bridget Thomas.
“160 coupons we gave out last year,” Peckosh said.
Those coupons equal 4,000 dollars billed to KV POP by veterinarians.
In the first 30 minutes, an estimated 80 coupons had been given out. This year, they only have 200.
“I’m hoping we have 199 people that want it because I don’t want to disappoint anyone,” Thomas said.
“They’re so appreciative. It’s like, I’m not doing that much, but I’m glad to help,” Peckosh said.
Providing a helping hand with an open heart.
