Two local employers are being recognized for helping out those who served our country.
The Missouri Career Center presented the City of Kirksville and Preferred Family Healthcare the "Flag of Freedom" award.
This award recognizes Missouri employers that have hired Missouri Veterans as part of Governor Jay Nixon's Show Me Heroes program.
Greg Gartside of the Missouri Career Center wants to see even more businesses get involved.
"I would like to see other employers participate in the Show Me Heroes program," Gartside said. "We've got 15 right now in Kirksville and almost 1800 around the state. It's a good program and we would like to see more participants."
The career center is also proud of the businesses and says they appreciate those who help our service men and women get back to work.
"We feel great about it, they've been very good about participating in everything we do. They have been up front about taking care of veterans. We appreciate that," Gartside said.
The award includes a part of an American Flag worn on the uniform of a missouri national guardsman who served.
