Local fishermen learning how to become a volunteer fishing instructor

The Missouri Department of Conservation held a workshop tonight to train new volunteer fishing instructors.

The Missouri Department of Conservation is helping fishermen to teach others.

The office in Kirksville held a workshop tonight to train new volunteer instructors.

The instructors were taught how to fish for different species also how to use different types of fishing equipment.

It's all for the new Discover Nature-Fishing Program.

"It's a good opportunity for folks to get out. Everybody is thinking about springtime and summer fishing opportunities. Missouri is a great place to fish. We're trying to help folks get out there and on the water," said Travis Moore of the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The volunteers now have to pass a background check to become an instructor.

The Hannibal office will be holding a class Wednesday from 6 to 9 p-m.
