One group of Heartland first responders are getting ready to help keep Macon County safe.
The Macon County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) met at Samarian Hospital in Macon earlier Monday evening.
Some of the things discussed were going over the training local emergency responders have done over the last few months and plan for some mock emergency scenarios in the near future such as dealing with an accident with hazardous material and what to do in an emergency situation in a middle of an ice storm.
"I think it's a very good idea so we can some bugs out of the system with what we might need. We'll have an idea if we do have something this winter. Everyone will know how to react. It's something that hasn't been done across the state. We've done a snow storm but never an ice storm," said Jeff Stacy of the Macon County LEPC.
The group is funded by the Missouri Emergency Response Commission and meets on the second Monday of every month.
