A local Heartland judge recently had the chance to meet with the top women of the Missouri judicial system.
Adair County Associate Circuit Judge Kristie Swaim was in Jefferson City earlier this month to attend the annual luncheon sponsored by Missouri Women of Judges in honor of Missouri Women Legislators at the Supreme Court Building.
Swaim said it was a great learning opportunity as women judges and legislators had the chance come together and share experiences.
"It's always great to get together with colleagues. We only see each other about 2 to 3 times a year at different trainings and judicial colleges. But it's great to get together in Jefferson City in the office of the Supreme Court to better understand our constitutional partners as part of the legislative process," Swaim said.
For the first time ever, all three women currently sitting on the Missouri Supreme Court hosted the luncheon, including Chief Justice Mary Russell, Judge Laura Stith and Judge Patricia Breckenridge.
Swaim has been a regular invite of the event since she took office in 2003.
