Local prosecutors stress "innocence until proven guilty"

President Matt Selby of the Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys released a statement claiming that only .004% of all convictions in the state of Missouri are innocent people.
This indicates the criminal system is accurate over 99.9% of the time, however Selby says in order to be 100% accurate, more attention is needed from prosecutors and law enforcement. The Missouri Supreme Court gives Missouri prosecutors more ethical duties than any other attorneys and prosecutor Matt Wilson believes this promotes trust from the public.
â??At the end of the day, I think that lawyers in general, defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges... we have a duty, a responsibility to our communities, to the system to instill the integrity and the trust that it requires because our general public can't believe in what we're doing when we're failing,â?? says Wilson.
According to Wilson, "Most wrongful convictions are due to error in DNA technology, eyewitness testimonies and prosecutors withholding evidence."
