The first day of school will be here soon and one Heartland business wanted to help kids get what they need.
The Verizon store in Kirksville participated in the Culture of Good's School Rocks Backpack Giveaway on Saturday.
Local families to brought their children in grades K-12 to the store to pick up a backpack. The backpacks were also filled with school supplies such as pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, and glue.
All just to help the community.
"I hope the community understands that we are very family oriented. We want to be really tight with the area and really support everybody," said Store Manager Justin Simmons.
Each backpack also contained a coloring sheet. if the child returns the sheet within 30 days, they will be eligable for a drawing for a $1,500 college scholarship. About 180 of the 250 backpacks were donated. The leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools.
