Congressman Dave Loebsack took a tour of the Alliant energy plant in Chillicothe Friday afternoon.
The Congressman expressed interest in the energy plant's environmental efforts of cleaning up emissions gas with a $153 million air quality control system project.
Construction of the project got underway in January 2012.
??I think everybody's anxious to see a reduction of carbon emissions from existing plants as well as any new plant to get built, it's good for the environment; it's good for everybody's health and welfare. We've got to have these plants we need the electricity. We need the energy for an all of the above approach. I'd like to see a lot of different kinds of energy generated bio-fuels, all kinds, but so long as we have these kinds of plants, the cleaner they burn the better it is for everybody,?? said Rep. Loebsack, D-Iowa.
Nearly 330 employees are working on the project, and it's expected to be complete by next February.
Congressman Loebsack also commended Alliant energy's efforts spending $13 million on construction materials in the state of Iowa.
