Longtime, behind-the-scenes KTVO employee retires
Friday was a bittersweet day for those of us who work at KTVO.
We bid a fond farewell to a longtime, behind-the-scenes employee.
KTVO Regional and National Sales Manager Merle Snyder was joined by his wife, Carolyn, for his going-away celebration Friday afternoon.
Merle has worked here at the station for the past 34 years and 10 months.
He was hired back on November 18, 1978.
Since then, Merle has been through about six station owners and outlasted approximately half a dozen general managers.
One of the station's financial gurus estimates that in his nearly 35 years at KTVO, he brought in an estimated $100 million in revenue for the station.
Merle is 72 years old, and we asked him why he didn't retire sooner.
He said, because he didn't want to and laughed.
Merle said he has never really know anything except work.
When asked what he will miss the least, he said all the meetings.
Merle said, at the moment, he doesn't have any big retirement plans, just getting things done that have been neglected along the way.
KTVO employees, past and present, told Merle good luck and sent him best wishes for retirement.
