Low gas prices could signal a busy Labor Day Weekend
Labor Day Weekend is considered the unofficial end of summer. So, of course, families are trying to get in one last quick getaway. And for those in the Heartland taking a road trip, thatâ??s good news.
Thanks to a downtrend in gas prices that began in July, drivers will be seeing the cheapest Labor Day driving since 2010.
With the extra cars on the road, police urge drivers to slow down and give yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination.
â??Labor Day is one of the busiest weekends that we have,â?? said Lieutenant Mark Wellman of the Kirksville Police Department. â??Itâ??s maybe behind Memorial Day and Thanksgiving in the amount of traffic that is on the highways. I would roughly guess probably 20 percent more travel during the daytime and maybe 10 percent at night.â??
If youâ??re planning on sticking around over the holiday, youâ??ll find plenty to do. La Plata is holding their 62nd Annual Soybean Festival, Novinger is holding their Labor Day celebration and Green Castle is having a Labor Day Parade.
