The Macon County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted kidnapping, a kidnapping that was foiled by the victim.
Sheriff's deputies received an emergency call around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 16, 2013. The caller reported an attempt to kidnap an 18-year-old female near New Cambria City Park.
According to the deputy's report, the victim told investigators she had been walking west on Morgan Street in New Cambria when she saw a black van pull up. The driver of the van asked the victim for directions.
As she started to answer, another man approached her from behind, grabbed her by the shirt and yelled at her to get into the van.
The victim then struck the second man in the face, escaped his grip and ran through the park to escape.
The van took off in the direction of Route Z.
The victim provided detailed descriptions of both of her assailants and their vehicle.
She described the driver was a white male, approximately 50 years of age with a long, scruffy, full-face, black beard. She said he had long black hair and was wearing a black T-shirt. She described his voice as being raspy like he was a heavy smoker.
The second man was described as a heavy set/chubby, bald white male, approximately 30-40 years of age, wearing a white T-shirt. He had a distinctive tattoo near his elbow, a sugar skull on his right arm with blue and green flowers. He also had a sleeve tattoo on the same arm.
The men were traveling in an all-black Chevy Astro Van with three windows on each side.
Macon County Sheriff Kevin Shoemaker told KTVO on Tuesday afternoon that his office has received some leads and that the investigation is continuing.
