Fri, 09 May 2014 21:07:11 GMT — A dozen firefighters were called to a house fire at 602 S. Missouri Street late Thursday night. The fire occurred just before 11:30 p.m.According to the Macon Fire Department, heavy smoke and flames were visible from the south side of the home.Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames fairly quickly and had the blaze under control just after 11:45 p.m. The room where the fire originated sustained extensive damage and the remainder of the home sustained significant heat and smoke damage.Investigators believe the cause of the fire was accidental. An ambulance crew assessed the owner of the home for injuries but she was released to a friend a short time later.Two firefighters were treated for heat related symptoms by the Macon County Ambulance District and released at the scene.
The fire department was assisted by the Macon Police Department, Macon County Ambulance District, and Macon Municipal Utilities.
