Man arrested for selling drugs near school

A southeast Iowa man is behind bars facing multiple drug-related charges.

Over the past week, the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force, conducted an investigation into the distribution of narcotics to minors. This occurred in the 500 block of Division Street in Mediapolis, Iowa. That location is within 1,000 feet of the Mediapolis baseball diamond and the Mediapolis School District.

On Thursday afternoon, Shane Allen Cheely, 40, of Mediapolis, was arrested in connection with the investigation.

Cheely is charged with three counts of Distribution of a Controlled Substance to Persons under 18 years of age, a Class D felony and 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The investigation is ongoing and further arrests are pending.
