A southeast Iowa man goes straight from his hospital room to a jail cell.
Jackie Glascock, 66, of Cincinnati, Iowa was arrested for the murder of his wife as he was discharged from University of Iowa Hospitals Wednesday.
Glascock is charged with first-degree murder.
He's accused of fatally shooting his wife, Doretta Glascock, 56, during a domestic dispute at their home on 600th Street outside Cincinnati on July 12, 2009.
When the Appanoose County Sheriff's Department got to the residence, Doretta was dead and Jackie was found with life-threatening injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
KTVO talked to Sheriff Gary Anderson Thursday about how the investigation unfolded.
Reporter: "How soon after the crime or after the investigation began did you believe that he was the suspect?"
"It was pretty quick that we had him as our only suspect, and (through) interviews and evidence at the scene.... we determined he was our suspect," said Anderson.
Before the shooting, Glascock was already facing a charge of domestic assault for a previous incident involving his wife.
At the time of Doretta Glascock TMs death, the sheriff said Jackie Glascock was violating a protection order that was in effect following the alleged assault on his wife.
Glascock is being held in the Appanoose County Jail on $1 million bond.
His preliminary hearing is set for August 26.
