Many Ottumwans spent day Puttin' Around Downtown
If you saw someone walking around downtown Ottumwa with a golf putter Thursday, you weren't mistaken.
Main Street Ottumwa and the Chamber of Commerce held the first ever Puttin Around Downtown. About a dozen teams met at the Chamber around 11:30 in the morning, and 16 businesses opened their doors to the golfers. Each establishment was responsible for deciding how elaborate their hole for the miniature golf course would be.
Main Street Ottumwa Executive Director Bob Untiedt says the purpose of the event is to bring recognition to downtown businesses and let the public know all the exciting renovations that are happening.
â??Maybe two or something of the people that are playing won't have been into every business that they'll be seeing today, and I think that's an exciting part about this as well and you know as we grow in future years and stuff,â?? Untiedt said. â??We'll add probably things too. The purse today will be $100 total, so the first place team will get about around $60.â??
Holes were set up at Dennyâ??s Emporium, The Sewing House, ISU Extension, Principal Financial Group, South Ottumwa Savings Bank, Main Street Ottumwa, the Ottumwa Chamber, the Leadership Academy, 2nd Act Comics and Games, Farmers Insurance, US Bank, Edward Jones, Hotel Ottumwa, AmericInn, MidWestOne Bank and NuCara Pharmacy.
Organzers anticipate "Puttin' Around Downtown" will become an annual affair.
