March 30, 2014 marks the second observance of Vietnam Veterans Day in the state of Missouri.
Governor Jay Nixon is encouraging Missourians to give special recognition to veterans of the conflict taking place in Southeast Asia over 30 years ago. The governor says, â??The veterans of Vietnam gave the same measure of sacrifice as veterans of our country's other wars, but their honorable service was slow in coming.â??
On March 30th, the veterans returned back home to the United States, but local veteran Marvin G. Flynn says the return home wasn't so welcoming.
â??The other wars, when the veterans returned home, they were recognized a lot more. They were loved in a way. We came home to a totally different scenario. We had bad representation over in Vietnam. Nobody liked the war and they blamed us Vietnam Veterans for it,â?? said Flynn.
Governor Nixon signed the Vietnam Veterans Day Bill into law in 2012.
