After over a year of fundraising, planning and construction, Ottumwa's Market on Main opened its doors to customers Wednesday.
The Ottumwa Chamber of Commerce held the official ribbon cutting and guests were able to walk through the Market's doors for the first time ever. Not only will the Market function as a year-round farmer's market, it also features several vendors inside, including a coffee shop, restaurant, clothing boutique and ice cream station.
Market on Main required the cooperation and coordination of the entire community, and now that it's finally open, Market on Main Director Heather Ware said she was excited to see all the hard work pay off.
"The Ottumwa Property Re-Development Board has been so supportive, we've been in here on hands and knees, everything from scrubbing floors to cleaning cabinets to building things, just so that we had it all put together and it was all volunteer hours, all the way up to this point," Ware said.
The Market is now open every Wednesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Market Memberships are available for $50 that provides discounts and special invitations to Market events.
Ware said that at the end of the year, she and the board will re-evaluate and hopefully expand the Market's hours and merchants.
