KTVO Teamed up with local media outlets and the American Red Cross once again for the "Step Up to the Plate and Donate" annual Media Blood Drive.
The blood drive ran from noon to 6 p.m Wednesday at Matthew Middle School in Kirksville. About 200 people stopped by all afternoon and donated blood of all blood types.
The American Red Cross says the blood drive was a total success with so many people donating. The summer season is when the demand for blood is much higher.
"Donations are so very important because a lot of our regular donors are out on vacation, especially with school being out of session, there is a decrease in donations. You never know what is going to happen," said Media Blood Drive Team Supervisor Ted Zeiter.
Food and drinks were provided, and all donors received a free St. Louis Cardinals T-shirt.
The goal for this year was 200 units of blood. The American Red Cross told us 200 people had shown up to donate, 145 usable units were collected.
