Meet and Greet with Ottumwa Police Chief candidates Thursday

The Ottumwa Police Chief will likely be named this Friday or early this next week.

First, the public can meet the three candidates for the position.

Thursday evening at 6 at the Bridge View Center, there will be a public meet and greet with the three candidates.

Each one will have five minutes to introduce themselves to everyone.

The City Council will then conduct interviews with each candidate on Friday.

â??We want to make sure the next chief provides good morale for the police department for one. Number two, we need to really stop looking at the police department as a revenue stream, looking at different ways to generate money for them, not just the fact of someone's walking home at 1 in the morning, we're going to pop them,â?? said Brian Morgan, Ottumwa City Councilman.

The three candidates include interim Chief Tom McAndrew, Jeff Jirak of Wilton and Lawrence McNaul of Grinnell.

Morgan said he believes who will be named the new chief is up in the air currently which is a rarity.

He strongly encourages the public to come meet the candidates Thursday night.
