Close to 40,000 Iowans will turn 65 in 2013 and will be encountering Medicare for the first time, and Milestones Area on Aging is holding a couple of free Medicare seminars.
They will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville from 4-6 p.m., and in Ottumwa at Indian Hills Community College in the Rural Health Center on Sept. 19, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Experts trained by the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) will be telling you everything you need to know about Medicare.
â??We'll talk about how to apply for Medicare,â?? Colleen Reed, Milestones Community Relations Coordinator, said. â??What is Medicare Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D? The importance of the different parts, what it's gonna cost you; what are supplements for Medicare, and what are some reasons why you may not qualify for it if you are still working at age 65, and the importance of every year reviewing your drug plan.â??
Reed asks that you sign up for the free seminar in Ottumwa by Sept. 12th and the one in Centerville by September 10th. You are asked to contact Colleen or Joan at Milestones to sign up. That number is 641-682-2270.
