MoDOT is winter storm ready

The Missouri Department of Transportation have been out since 7 a.m. Tuesday getting ready for the winter storm.

With this latest round of winter weather heavily impacting the roadways, the Missouri Department of Transportation is back once again on the roads.

Crews have been out since 7 a.m. Tuesday pre-treating roads, checking equipment and materials to have plows ready to hit the roads.

MoDOT is advising motorists to stay off the roads if you can.

"We did put out a travel advisory to tell people if they don't have to be out to please stay home. Our snow plows are going to be out there to make sure the roads are safe. We do have a lot of snow coming. Sometimes the intensity of the storm is going to be very high also the winds are going to kick in throughout the storm that is also going to impact visibility," said MoDOT Engineer Kevin James.

MoDOT also asks motorists to give the snow plows the distance they need as they are out clearing the highways.

As always, MoDOT urges drivers to plan ahead, check road conditions before traveling and allow extra time for travel.
