The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri is thanking one group for their efforts this past weekend.

About 200 people gathered at the Moose Lodge in Kirksville on Saturday night to celebrate the wedding anniversaries of the Hughes and Schouse couples.

For the past five years, the couples have asked their guests to donate to a local cause and this year they asked for a monetary or canned food donation to the food bank to show more support for the organization.

"I think what it shows that the word is getting around. The more publicity we get and the more we are out there spreading the word that out pantries need food and that we need support and need a larger food pantry in Adair County area. Lots of people are here to help," said Susan Dublin for the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

In the end, a little over 5,000 pounds of food was donated. All the food will be given to the Salvation Army and local pantries in the area.
