Motorcyclists ride to support area pets and their owners

Motorcyclists are fueling up for this weekendâ??s ride.

Hogs4Dogs USA is a non-profit organization that holds the ride each year.

When it started in 2004 the ride consisted of 30 riders with all proceeds benefiting the local humane society.

New changes were made regarding the organizations mission statement in 2011.

It now states that event proceeds will be used to help owners with emergency pet fees and spay/neuter programs.

Over the years, food and supplies have been donated to homeless pets, pet specific oxygen masks have been donated to several fire and rescue departments, and K9 ballistic vests have been provided to numerous police departments.

In 2013, the organization held their 10th annual ride, where 400 riders participated, raising over $70,000.

Now, an even bigger turn-out is expected this weekend.

The event will kick-off at 7pm on Friday, September 5th at the Courtside Bar and Grill in Ottumwa.

Check-in and registration starts at 9am on Sunday, September 7th.

There is a $25 entry fee per person which includes a t-shirt and dinner.
